Petty International Raceway kicked off its 2018 season with a big double header weekend on Friday May 18th. In action was the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros, the new King's County Performance Beginner 4 Cylinders class, the Mister Transmission Mini Stocks and the Westwood Estates Street Stocks.

For the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros, it looked as if Josh Langille would kick off his season with a victory, leading almost every lap. Defending track champion Sam Rogers made the right move at the right time with two to go to take the top spot and hold on for the win. Colton Noble brought his Josh Collins supported entry home for third. Rogers and Langille were heat race winners.

In the King's County Performance Beginner 4 Cylinders, rookie Casie Skidmore, whose brother Brandon had previously won a Modified title and had Pro Stock starts, dominated for the 15 lap feature win. The first year racer had the win by at least a straightaway over the competition. Former track champion Paula Evans was 2nd with Amanda Llewellyn coming home 3rd after a late entry to the track. Skidmore was the lone heat winner.

In the Mister Transmission Mini Stocks, a feature win was finally found by Patricia Taylor who led every lap against her competition. Taylor held off multi time track champion Tim Webster and Mike Weagle, who mounted a late charge on Webster to try and allow his teammate to win her first feature, which ultimately paid off.

Westwood Estates Street Stocks capped off the evening in a 40 lap affair on the high banks as PEI native Alex Sheehan, biding his time from shotgun on the field, capitalized on a leader incident with a lapped car to take the top spot late. Until then, Nick Cudmore had been well on his way to a win, but rallied back for 4th.

Michael Cormier ended up 2nd with a great run while Luc McLaughlin, a driver many thought was the favourite, rounded out the podium.

Saturday's action featured the Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour in a stellar field of 29 for the Lucas Oil 150. This event opened their season.

Just as it had happened many times before, Dylan Blenkhorn and Cole Butcher found themselves upfront in the event, swapping the lead a few times while the field raced for 3rd. In the end, it was Blenkhorn getting the victory in the marathon event, which took over two hours to complete. Butcher was ultimately 2nd with Craig Slaunwhite mounting a late charge for 3rd.

AE McKay Builders came on board in 2018 to support the Late Model Sportsman division, which proved exciting in their 50 lap feature. Two time International champion Laurie Cormier returned to the high banks in dominant fashion by winning the feature over Brady Creamer and Luc Bourgeois

Pre race favourite and defending champion Kenny Mackenzie found rare trouble after contact with Justin Beers brought both of their events to a halt.

The Atlantic Modifieds saw a first time winner in their 30 lap event as John Lyons held off a hard charge from Joe Hoyt to score the popular victory. Braxton Stafford started on the pole and rounded out the podium in a clean event.

Stafford started off the day with a heat win to lock himself into the pole.

The MJS Holdings and Prime Lifts East Coast Mini Stock Tour saw a big turn out for their season opener, a 50 lap event on the high banks. Thunder Car champion Dave Matthews brought his Mystery Machine lookalike under the checkers first in a frantic race.

The next event for Petty International Raceway is the Atlantic Fleet Completion Centre 150 as part of the PASS North campaign in 2018. That event takes place June 2nd at 6PM.
