Point Battles Headline Double-Header Weekend at Petty Int'l Raceway
RIVER GLADE, NB (August 1, 2012) - Petty International Raceway is set for an action-packed long weekend of racing this Saturday and Sunday. All four of racing divisions will compete with two of those seeing extended length features; the GT Enterprises Sportsman 150-lap feature will highlight Saturday's show and the Petitcodiac Napa Street Stock 100 will be the high spot of Sunday's show.
With only seven points separating first from second - all tolled for the four divisions - and with the season reaching its halfway point - every lap will count as drivers vie for every spot they can gain in hopes of becoming the first Petty track champions in more than a decade.
The Leisure Days RV Bandolero class sees Cole Boudreau with a slim two-point lead over Drew Greenlaw; Alexandra O'Blenis, Cole tanner and Dana Hamm are in hot pursuit with just six markers separating these top five drivers.
The Mister Transmission Mini Stock standings has a tie for first between Joshua Moore and Deven Smith, followed closely by Eugene Weagle - just five markers out of first.
The Street Stock division sees leader Martin Landry with a one-point advantage over Devin Snell, who has a one-point lead over Rick Cashol. Marshall Berry is fourth - only five points behind Cashol; Jeff Tugwell and Rob Pethick are tied for fifth - just eight points out of fourth.
The GT Enterprises Sportsman has the biggest gap at the top - with a "whopping" four points separating Dave O'Blenis and Colby Smith - each winners at the Petty oval this year. Veteran Bill Sommerville is tied for third with John Rankin, both 16 markers behind Smith, and Russell Smith Jr is fifth - just two points out of third.
As an added bonus this weekend fans in attendance will witness the debut of Petty's all-new electronic scoreboard which will show the lap count and top five running order - Petty's latest investment to enhance the fan experience.
Besides sportsman, Saturday will see competition in the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros, the Mister Transmission Mini Stock, and Street Stock. On Sunday, besides the street stock, the sportsman will be back for an open comp race along with points racing for the Bandolero, Mini Stock, and a special appearance by the Atlantic Open Wheel (AOW) series. Racing starts at 6 p.m. both days.
Tickets will be available at the gate. There is plenty of free parking for cars and RV's.
