Petty's International Weekend is Growing!
RIVER GLADE, NB (February 20, 2012) - The management of Petty International Raceway, along with that of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, are pleased to announce the August 24-25 International weekend will be expanded to include a 150-lap feature race for the pro stock competitors.
"This is a part of our plan to see the historic International regain its stature as one of the premiere stock car racing events in the Maritimes," said Craig McFetridge, co-owner of Petty International Raceway.
With the pro stocks running 150 laps on Saturday August 25, and the sportsman running the Jones Auto Body 150 on Friday August 24, the weekend will now become known as the River Glade International 300.
The pro stock leg of the International is round 11 of 12 en route to the 2012 Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour championship, and the third of four extended length events on tap for the series this season. The sportsman leg of the weekend is round five of six in the GT Enterprises Sportsman Series being held this year at Petty International Raceway - in which the series overall winner will be offered the chance to drive Wayne Smith's No. 44 in Petty's season finale open pro stock 150 set for September 22.
The River Glade International is the oldest stock race in Canada, with roots all the way back to the inaugural International in 1965. Since then 29 different drivers have seen their names etched on the majestic winners trophy, including Canadian racing Hall of Fame members like Don Biederman, Frank Fraser, Jim Hallahan, Junior Hanley, Earl Ross, and Greg Sewart. Kent Vincent (pro stock) and Dave O'Blenis (sportsman) are the defending winners of the 2011 International.
