RIVER GLADE, NB (September 20, 2011) – This Saturday will see the final race for the 2011 season at Petty International Raceway. The Carnahan Property Management 150 is expected to put the proverbial icing on a successful season for the new owners who re-opened the facility this year after a 10-year closure.
"It has been most gratifying," said Brett Benoit, co-owner. "It was just a year ago that we first had the notion of re-opening Petty. Since then we've had a lot of help in rebuilding and then running the events we've hosted this year."
This Saturday will see a special bonus for Petty race fans with an added event to close the season. The Carnahan Property Management 150 will feature top pro stock racers from all three Maritime Provinces including regional legend Frank Fraser Sr. who will make his second pro stock start this year. Fraser will drive the championship car of Wayne Smith, who will wear his co-owners cap for the event.
"It will be a good chance to check out the competition," chuckled Fraser, a resident of Shubenacadie, NS - with roots in the Moncton area. "There has been so much competition over the years between us and them (Smith team) most people are having a hard time wrapping their head around us being in his car. Honestly, that includes me at times."
Seriously, Fraser gives two thumbs up to the new owners at Petty and would like to help them out.
"They have done a really good job this year," said Fraser, "an all around good job: with the facility, the racers, and the fans. If we can help bring a little excitement to the event then I'm happy to do it."
Other top names expected to enter the Carnahan Property Management 150 include New Brunswick's Dave O'Blenis (Salisbury), and Steve Halpin (Saint John), along with former Maritime Pro Stock Tour champion Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS), and multi-time Maritime Pro Stock Tour winner Kent Vincent (Crapaud, PE).
